HEC Teacher Education Road Map 2024 for Universities Through NCRC

Higher Education Commission (HEC) after consultation with the National Curriculum Committee NCRC Islamabad released on December 30, 2022, an updated guideline regarding HEC Teacher Education Road Map 2024 for teacher training in Pakistan. Following the updated roadmap, MA Education, M.Ed, as well as BS Education degrees, are now conferred the equivalent status as B.Ed 4 years, B.Ed Hons, B.Ed 2.5 years after 14 years of schooling as well as B.Ed 1.5 years after 16 years of study.  The students who earn the above-mentioned degrees can be admitted to the M.Phil/MS Education Program.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued letters to the head of all private and public sector institutions and degree-granting institutes, asking that the updated teacher Education Roadmap be adopted following the guidelines from the National Curriculum Review Committee in the field of education.

Key Points of HEC Teacher Education Road Map 2024

  1. The revised roadmap was designed according to the guidelines of the National Curriculum Review Committee in the field of Education. According to the revised plan:
  2. Candidates with an Associate degree in education (ADE) are permitted to join the fifth semester or third year of the four-year B.Ed. program.
  3. Candidates who hold an Associate degree in a discipline other than Education, or two-year BA/BSc degrees that were previously offered (now extinct) are admitted during the 5th semester or the third year of the four-year B.Ed. program in a bridging semester following completion of the courses that are deficient (15-18 credits) according to the institution that is admitting them on a case-by-case basis.
  4. MA Education M.Ed. and BS Education shall be considered equivalent to B.Ed. 4 years/B.Ed. (Hons), B.Ed. 2.5 following 14 years of qualification in addition to B.Ed.1.5 following 16 years of qualification.
  5. Graduates who have completed 16 years or equivalent experience in other disciplines than Education and who are aspiring to obtain B.Ed. the degree will be granted to enroll in B.Ed.1.5 consisting of.45-54 credit hours of coursework.
  6. Graduates who have completed at least 16 years of non-relevant education who wish to be admitted to MS/MPhil Education will be required to complete deficiency classes of a minimum of 18 credit hours to be admitted into the degree program following the admissions criteria of the university on a case by case basis.
  7. The designation to refer to Teacher Education Degrees shall only be “Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)” beginning in the fall of 2024.
  8. The strands, like Early Childhood Education, Elementary Secondary Education, and so on. as well as specializations such as Curriculum Assessment, Academic planning as well as Leadership, Guidance and Counseling, and more. should only be included on transcripts, not degrees.

Implementation of HEC Road Map

The curricula designed are printed and sent to universities/institutions for adoption/implementation after the approval of the Competent Authority. The same has been conveyed to the heads of all public and private sector universities as well as degree-awarding institutes through an official letter.
