Summary of the Lesson

The lesson “The Saviour of Mankind” describes the life, character and mission of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ.

Arabia is a land of great beauty. It has vast deserts, high sand dunes, a bright tropical sun and a clear, starry sky. However, before the advent of Islam, the people of Arabia were living in ignorance, disunity and moral darkness. They were divided into tribes and often fought with one another. Idol worship, superstition, cruelty, injustice, tribal hatred and oppression of the weak were common. The rights of women were also ignored.

Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ was born in Makkah in the noble tribe of Quraish and the respected family of Banu Hashim. Even before Prophethood, he was famous for his truthfulness, honesty, kindness and trustworthiness. The people of Makkah called him As-Sadiq, meaning “the truthful,” and Al-Ameen, meaning “the trustworthy.”

At the age of forty, the Holy Prophet ﷺ received the first revelation in the Cave of Hira through Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام. The first word of revelation was “Iqra”, meaning “Read.” He preached the Oneness of Allah and invited people to abandon idol worship and follow the path of truth, justice, equality, compassion and righteousness.

The people of Makkah opposed and persecuted him, but he remained patient and steadfast. After migration to Madinah, he established a peaceful and just society based on Islamic principles. He raised the status of women, protected the rights of the weak, encouraged education and taught people to live with justice, mercy, brotherhood and equality.

The Holy Prophet ﷺ is called the Saviour of Mankind because he guided humanity from the darkness of ignorance, disbelief and injustice to the light of faith, knowledge, morality and righteousness.
