KPK 9th Class Physics Chapter 1 Physical Quantities and Measurement Short Questions Answers
How technology is shaped by physics?
Most of the technology of our modern society throughout the world are related to physics for example.
Physics and Biology are considered different branches of science, how physics links with biology?
Physics Linked with Biology:
Why are measurement important?
Those quantities which can be measured are called physical quantities. In physics we deal with quantities in which measurements required. In our daily life we are always making measurements.
For example:
Why area is a derived quantity?
Derived quantities are those quantities which are obtained by multiplying or dividing one base quantity with another base quantity or same base quantity. Area is a derived quantity because area has same base quantity i.e. length which occurs twice in the form of length and breadth.
Name any four derived units and write them as their base units?
The physical quantities defined in terms of base quantities are called derived quantities. The corresponding units for these quantities are called derived units.
Derived Quantities
Derived Units
Area
m2
Force
N=kg m/sec2
Speed
m/sec
Energy
J=kg m2/sec2
Why in physics we need to write in scientific notation?
In physics we deal with number that are either very small or very large, it becomes difficult to write these numbers. For example, the mass of moon is approximately 70,000000000000000000000 kilograms. It can be expressed in scientific notation as 7 x 1022 kg. which is easy to read and write.
Similarly the diameter of nucleus is very small i.e 0.000000000000001m it can be expressed in scientific form as 1 x 1014m which is easy to read and write.
What is least count? How least count for vernier caliper and screw gauge are defined?
Least count: least count is the minimum value that can be measured on the scale of measuring instrument.
Least count for vernier caliper:
The difference between the value of one main scale division and one vernier scale division are called least count. It is represented by L.C.
Least Count+ one main scale division – one vernier scale division
If one main scale division is 1mm, one vernier scale division is 0.9mm, the least count of vernier caliper is = 1 – 0.9 = 0.1mm
Least count can be obtained from dividing the value of smallest division on main scale by total number of division on vernier scale.
Least Count = smallest division on main scale/total number of division on vernier scale
Least count = 1mm/10
= 0.1mm
Least count for screw gauge:
The least count of screw guage is found by dividing its pitch by the total number of circular scale division.
Least count = Pitch of screw guage/Total no. of division on circular scale
= 0.5/50
L.C = 0.01mm
L.C = 0.001 cm
How can we find the volume of a small pebble with the help of measuring cylinder?
To measure the volum of a pebble water is poured into a measuring cylinder until the cylinder is about half full. The volume is measured and then pebble is lowered gently into it when the object is completely immersed the volume of water is read again. Then volume of pebble is found by subtracting the first reading from the second reading.
How to Write Perfect Short Answers?
In Board Exams, the examiner looks for specific keywords and presentation. Here is how to attempt Chapter 1 questions:
- Ideal Length: Write 3 to 5 lines for each short question. Too short gets fewer marks, too long wastes time.
- Highlighting: Use a Blue Marker to highlight key dates, names, or scientific terms in your answer.
- Units & Formulas: Always write the formula and SI unit. Without units, 0.5 marks are deducted.
