KPK 9th Class Biology Chapter 7 Bioenergetics Short Questions Answers
Why ATP regarded as the as the curreny of the living cell?
ATP is an energy rich molecule and is called as energy currency of living cells.
What is the role of pigment during photosynthesis?
Pigments are the complex organic compounds which abosrobs mainly blue and red portion of sunlight and convert it into chemical energy for the formatting of carbohydrates (glucose).
Draw the structure of ATP molecule.
“ATP is an energy rich molecules and is called as the currency of energy.”
Compare lactic acid fermentation with alcoholic fermentation.
Lactic acid fermentation:
It occurs in many microorganisms (bacteria) and also in muscle cells of human. It completes in two steps:
During first step, glucose is broken down into two pyruvic acids (glycolysis).
During second step, phyruvic acid is reduced into lactic acid. Only two ATP molecules are produced in this process.
Glucose + 2ATP 2pyruvic acid + 4ATP 2() 2( pyruvic acids Lactic acid)
2. Alcoholic fermentation
It is brought about by microorganisms like yeast. It also completes in two steps:
The first step is glycolysis i.e. glucose molecules is broken down into two molecules of pyruvice acid and NAD is reduced to .
In the second step, pyruvic acid is converted into ethyl alcohol and . 2ATP are produced during this process from one glucose molecule.
Glucose + 2ATP 2pyrvic acid + 4ATP
2NADH 2NAD
+ 2ATP +
Why are oxidation and reduction important for plants?
Oxidation:
These loss of electrons or hydrogen during metabolic action in the cell of living organism is called oxidation.
Reduction: The gain of electron or hydrogen during metabolic reaction in the cell of living organisms is called reduction.
