پانی کی قلت کے زمانے میں نام دیو مالی کہیں نہ کہیں سے پانی ڈھونڈ لاتا تھا۔ اس طرح اپنے پودوں کی پیاس بجھاتا۔ جب پانی کی قلت مزید بڑھ گئی تو اس راتوں کو بھی پانی ڈھوڈھو کر لانا شروع کر دیا۔ اس طرح پانی کی قلت کے زمانے میں بھی نام دیو کا چمن شاداب رہتا تھا۔
نام دیو مالی پودوں کو اپنے بچوں کی طرح پیار کرتا ان کی خدمت کرتا جب مصنف نے انعام کی پیشکش کی تو اس نے یہ کہہ کر انعام لینے سے انکار کر دیا کہ بچوں کے پالنے پوسنے میں کوئی انعام کا مستحق نہیں ہوتا۔
لوگ بچوں کے علاج کے لیے اس لیے نام دیو کے پاس آتے تھے کیونکہ اسے باغوں میں رہتے ہوئے جڑی بوٹیوں کی شناخت ہو گئی تھی خاص طور پر بچوں کے علاج میں اسے بہت مہارت تھی۔
ایک دن شہد کی مکھیوں کی پورش ہوئی سب مالی بھاگ بھاگ کر چھپ گئے نام دیو کی خبر بھی نہ ہوئی کہ کیا ہو رہا ہے وہ اپنے کام میں مصروف رہا اسے خبر نہ تھی کہ قضا اس کی سر پر کھیل رہی ہے مکھیوں کا غضبناک جھلڑا اس غریب کے سر پر ٹوٹ پڑا۔ اتنا کاٹا کہ بے بس ہو گیا۔ آخر کار اسی میں جان دے دی۔
