KPK 11th Class Biology Chapter 8 Diversity Among Plants Short Questions Answers

Define a Hernation of generation and give its Importance?

The Bryophytes are the its plants which migrated to land from water. They shows the following adaptation.
Multicellular plant body and conserration of water.
A compact multicellular plant body was formed which helped in the conserration of water by reducing cell surface are exposed to dry land condition.
It bryophyte are dry they become brittle and turn green soon after getting water.
Absorption of CO2:
The epidermis of Bryophytes have many pores for the diffusion of CO2 and oxygen. Wet surface of the photosynthetic cells also absorbs CO2.
Absorption of water.
Special structures like Rhizoids were developed for absorption of water.
Hetrogamy:
Hetrogemy was evolved, formin non-motile egg containing stored food and motile sperms.
Protection of reproductive cells
The reproductive cells are sperm and egg.
The sperms are protected in male sex organ or anth eridium and the egg in the female sex organ or archegonium.
The sex organs are prevented from drying by the leaf like structure present in the sex organs.
Spores of Bryophytes are protected in sporangia.
Alternation of generation:
Alternation of spores producing generation (sporophyte) with gamete producing generation (gametophyte) enable the plant to produce and test the best genetic combinations for adapting to derrestrial conditions.

Define heterogamy:

Ans. Hetrogamy:
Hetrogemy was evolved, formin non-motile egg containing stored food and motile sperms.

What is an antheridium and an archegonium?

The moss plant is the gametophyte which nears sex organs.
The male sex organ is called Antheridium and female sex organ are called archegonium.

Give two difference b/w bryophytes and tracheophytes.

General characteristics of Bryophytes(non –vascular plants)
Bryophytes are the first plant which migrated to land.
Bryophytes are small, simplest and non flowering land plants.
Bryophytes occurs in moist and shady places.
The bryophytes are non-rescular plants, thus the transports of food, water and minerals occurs by diffusion.
Tracheophytes: The vascular plants have the following charecteristics.
Tracheophytes form a land diverse group of the present day land plants.
They are the dominat land plants.
Tracheophytes have conducting and vascular tissues.
They are called Tracheophytes because they have trachids which are water conducting cells of xylum.

Give three differences b/w Angiosperms and gymnosperms.

General charecterisof Gymnosperms:
The word Gymnosperm is derived from two words, Gymnos means naked and sperm means seeds.
The gymnosperms are successful group of seed plants.
Gymnosperms are shrubs or trees.
Angiosperms:
The word angiosperm means Angio sac, sperma seed.
The angiosperms are a group of seed plants (spermatophytel) in which the seeds are enclosed in the fruits.
They are flowering plants the member of the

Give three examples of subphylum psilopsida?

The psilopsida have the following charecteristics.
This is the oldest group of vascular plants.
They were most primitive simplest, rootless, leafless vascular plants.

What is the difference b/w microphylous leaf and megaphyllous leaf.

Microphylous leaf:
A leaf haring a single unbranched vein is called microphylous leaf.
Megaphylous leaf:
A leaf having an Internally branching system of many veins is called megaphylous leaf.
