For the 2026 academic session, the Grade 8 annual examinations are expected to be conducted in March 2026 across all districts of Punjab. Previously, the responsibility of conducting Grade 5 and Grade 8 examinations in Punjab was assigned to the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC), which was established by the Government of Punjab in 2005. However, the assessment system has now been restructured and the responsibility has been transferred to the Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) to further strengthen the evaluation and education system at the elementary level.

PECTA now oversees the assessment, curriculum support, and evaluation process for elementary education across all 36 districts of Punjab. The authority aims to ensure that examinations are conducted in a fair, transparent, and standardized manner so that students receive accurate evaluation and a strong academic foundation before moving toward secondary education (matriculation level).
