ISTA has an internship program called ISTern for exceptional undergraduates and graduate students. Applying students should have an interest in doing fundamental studies in the areas of biology, computer science, data science & scientific computing, mathematics, physics, neuroscience, chemistry & materials, and interdisciplinary topics. Inquiries for the ISTernship program’s summer 2023 session are currently being accepted. Reference letters and complete applications are due by February 15, 2023. (15:00 CET).
This summer, undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in gaining research experience in the field of science can participate in the ISTernship (“IST-” + “(int)ernship). Since its inception in 2013, our ISTernship program has seen between 30 and 40 students participate each summer.
IST Summer Internship in Austria 2023 Deadline
Internship candidates must specify the research group in which they wish to participate and reach consensus with the group’s leader on a study topic before being accepted.
Upon arrival, ISTern are given an overview of the ISTA research environment and the ISTA graduate school. Research presentations by ISTern to their peers, instructors, and lab supervisors at the end of the program constitute the research symposium.
All work and communication during internships will take place in English.

IST Program Information
The IST internship in Europe is not limited to research activities but also incorporates social events to lighten interns’ workloads. Group presentations held to make interns’ experience as meaningful and memorable as possible. Interns have enough free time to explore museums, parks, opera, and other locations in Austria. In addition, interns invited to the annual Austria BBQ at IST to strengthen their relationship with the group.

IST Summer Internship 2023 eligibility criteria:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in related sciences, required.
Bachelor’s degree candidates must have completed four semesters.
This internship is not open to Ph.D. or PhD-accepted candidates.
English-proficient candidates only.
Candidates must able to attend a full-time internship and their institutions must not oppose.
