The Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks are an important part of the ISSB (Inter Services Selection Board) assessment process. Indoor Tasks

Group Discussion is an indoor task in ISSB where candidates sit together and discuss a given topic. It checks confidence, communication skills, reasoning, teamwork, and knowledge. The focus is on how clearly and logically a candidate presents ideas while respecting others’ opinions.

Group Planning Exercise (GPE)

Group Planning Exercise (GPE) is an indoor task where candidates are given a problem scenario with a map. The group discusses possible solutions and makes a final plan. It tests logical thinking, decision-making, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills.

GTO’s Outdoor Tasks

Outdoor GTO tasks are held in open fields and involve practical problem-solving and physical group activities. These tasks test leadership, cooperation, stamina, and courage. Examples include:

Progressive Group Task (PGT) in ISSB

Progressive Group Task (PGT) is an outdoor activity in ISSB where candidates work in a group to solve obstacles step by step. The group is given limited resources like planks, ropes, or drums to cross different hurdles. The task checks teamwork, leadership, planning, cooperation, and problem-solving ability. As the group moves forward, the obstacles become more difficult, showing how candidates adapt, guide, and support each other.

Half Group Task (HGT) ISSB

Half Group Task (HGT) is an outdoor activity at ISSB where the group is divided into two smaller teams. Each team is given an obstacle and limited resources to solve it. This task helps assess individual leadership, teamwork, cooperation, and practical problem-solving skills more closely since fewer candidates participate at a time.

Command Task ISSB

Command Task is an outdoor leadership activity in ISSB where one candidate is made the commander and given a group, an obstacle, and limited resources to solve it. The commander has to lead, guide, and assign roles while others follow instructions. It tests leadership, confidence, decision-making, and communication skills under pressure.

Individual Obstacles 

Individual Task is an outdoor activity where each candidate has to perform a series of physical obstacles such as climbing, jumping, crawling, or balancing. It checks a candidate’s courage, stamina, confidence, and determination. The focus is on how actively and confidently a candidate attempts the tasks, not just on completion.

Final Group Task (FGT)

Final Group Task (FGT) is the last outdoor activity at ISSB where the whole group works together on a single obstacle with limited resources. It is similar to the Progressive Group Task but shorter in time. The purpose is to observe team spirit, cooperation, and unity, as well as how candidates support each other in the final stage.
