A Greedy Dog

For 8th Class Student 

Once there was a dog. He was very hungry. He found a piece of meat at a shop and ran away with it. On the way, he came to a stream. While crossing the bridge, he looked into the water and saw his own reflection. He thought it was another dog with a bigger piece of meat. To get that meat, he barked and opened his mouth. His own piece of meat fell into the water and was lost. He became very sad and went away.

Moral: Greed is a curse.

For 9th Class Student 

Once, a hungry dog was wandering in search of food. He came across a piece of meat at a butcher’s shop, grabbed it, and ran off quickly. On his way home, he had to cross a wooden bridge over a stream.

As he was crossing, he glanced into the water and saw his reflection. Mistaking it for another dog with a larger piece of meat, greed took over his mind. Determined to have both pieces, he barked fiercely. The moment he opened his mouth, his own piece of meat fell into the stream and was carried away by the water.

He stood on the bridge, staring helplessly, regretting his greed.

Moral: Greed is a curse.

For 11th Class Student 

Once, a famished dog roamed the streets in search of food. His fortune turned when he spotted a piece of meat lying unattended at a butcher’s shop. Snatching it swiftly, he ran towards home, eager to enjoy his meal in peace.

On the way, he reached a narrow bridge spanning a stream. As he crossed, he happened to look into the calm water below. There, he saw what he believed was another dog carrying a larger piece of meat. Blinded by greed, he resolved to snatch it.

The moment he barked, the meat slipped from his mouth, splashed into the water, and vanished with the current. It was then he realised his mistake—what he had seen was merely his own reflection, and in trying to grasp more, he had lost what he already had.

Moral: Greed blinds us to reality and often leads to loss.
