Important Dates to Remember

1. A citizen of Pakistan.
2. Must hold at least a bachelor’s Degree with the second division in any Faculty/Discipline from one of the Pakistani Universities or an equivalent degree or comparable educational qualifications of a foreign University.
3. No candidate who has obtained a 2nd Division in his/her Bachelor’s Degree will be eligible for the Examination except in cases where he/she has obtained a higher Division in Master’s Degree.
4. The relaxation is also available to candidates belonging to certain remote areas as defined by the Government.
5. The age limit for admission in the CSS Examination is 21-30 years, which is relaxable up to 2 years for those who are already in Government Service and have completed 2 years of service.

Age Relaxation Criteria for CSS Exam 2024

1. Individuals currently working in government positions for at least two years are eligible for age relaxation, reducing the limit to 32 years. A Departmental Permission Certificate is required.
2. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Buddhist communities can avail of age relaxation with a certificate from DCO/Political Agent/District Magistrate.
3. Recognized tribes residing permanently in specific regions, such as Baluchistan, Tribal Areas, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, are eligible with valid certificates from relevant authorities.
4. Disabled individuals, including those with physical, hearing/speech, or visual impairments, can benefit from age relaxation with a disability certificate from the designated authority.

FPSC CSS Exam Structure

The CSS Examination is divided into the following 4 parts:

• Written Examination (1200 Marks)
• Medical Examination
• Psychological Test
• Viva Voce (300 Marks)

The written exam is divided into two parts:

• Compulsory Subjects: These subjects are mandatory for all candidates and include English Essay, English Composition, General Science and Ability, Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs, Islamic Studies or Comparative Study of Major Religions, and an optional subject from a list provided by the FPSC.
• Optional Subjects: Candidates need to choose subjects from a list of optional subjects provided by the FPSC. These subjects cover a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to Political Science, International Relations, History, Economics, Sociology, Law, and Literature.

CSS Compulsory and Optional Subjects Group Wise List

The CSS written examination consists of 12 subjects, with six being compulsory, covering English and Grammar, General Science & Ability, Pakistan Study, Pakistan Current Affairs, and Islamic Study. Each compulsory subject carries 100 marks. Additionally, candidates must select optional subjects totaling 600 marks. To qualify, candidates need to secure a minimum of 40% in each compulsory subject, 33% in each optional subject, and an overall aggregate of 50%. After clearing the written part, candidates face a Psychological test and viva voce test, each carrying 300 marks, resulting in a total of 1500 marks in the CSS examination.
