The Institute of Blue Pottery Development is a modest but interesting place to learn about the process of making blue pottery, a traditional skill that is a Multan specialty. British Army Engineer and Archaeologist Alexander Cunningham. In 1861, he was given the position of subcontinental archaeological surveyor. In 1863, he went to Multan and discovered Qila Kohna Qassim Bagh’s glazed tiles. He said the glazed tiles dated to the year 900 A.
This amazing find proved that the tiles had been used in a mosque constructed before Mohammed Bin Qassim’s arrival in Multan. On the basis of these data, academics and archaeologists have theorized that “Multani Kashi” originates in both Persia and China.

To prevent the loss of this cultural treasure, the Punjab Small Industries Corporation founded the Institute of Blue Pottery Development in 1985. Over 400 new pottery and decorative-ware styles have been produced thanks to the institute’s training programme for artists. Designs like the “complete bhrai,” “antique,” “bamboo,” and “Neem patti” on blue ceramics are well-known all over the world.
